In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
