In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
