The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
