The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
