The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
