The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
