The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And children present [with him] 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
