The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
