The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
