The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
