The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
