The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
