The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
