The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
