The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
