Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Then watch thou for the Day that the sky will bring forth a kind of smoke (or mist) plainly visible, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
