The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
