Nay, by the moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Indeed hell is one of the greatest entities. 35 A warning to mortals, 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 Of evil-doers: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
