No, by the moon! 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 a warning to mortal man 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
