The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Verily, the Abrar (pious, who fear Allah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafur. 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
