The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 The shades of Paradise will bend over them, and its fruits will be brought within their easy reach; 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
