The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning. 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
