The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 These will be the ones who fulfil their vows and dread the Day whose woe shall be spread far and wide; 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 and their reward for being patient will be a Garden and silk [clothing]. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
