In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By (the angels) sent forth with the commands of God, 1 and then storming on with a tempest's force, 2 And scatter (things) far and wide; 3 by (the angels) who make a clear distinction between right and wrong 4 and then giving forth a reminder, 5 to serve as an excuse or a warning. 6 Surely, what you are promised must come to pass. 7 When the stars shall be extinguished, 8 and the sky is rent asunder, 9 And when the mountains are carried away by wind. 10 And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect);- 11 for what Day has this been appointed? 12 To the Day of Judgement. 13 And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out? 14 Woe, that Day, to the deniers. 15 Did We not destroy many a nation of the earlier times? 16 and then follow them with the later folk? 17 Even thus shall We deal with the guilty. 18 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth! 19 Did We not create you from a weak water, 20 which We then let remain in [the womb's] firm keeping 21 For a known period (determined by gestation)? 22 Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging! 23 Woe on that day to the rejecters. 24 Have We not made the earth a receptacle. 25 The living and the dead, 26 place on it high mountains and provide you with fresh water? 27 Woe on that Day to those that give the lie to the Truth! 28 GO ON towards that [resurrection] which you were wont to call a lie! 29 Depart into the shadow of three masses, 30 which neither gives shade nor protects one from the flames. 31 which - behold! - will throw up sparks like [burning] logs, 32 (Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue. 33 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 34 This is the day on which they shall not speak, 35 Nor given leave to make excuses. 36 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 37 Such is the Day of Decision. We will gather you with the ancients. 38 and if you [think that you] have a subterfuge left, try to outwit Me!" 39 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies! 40
