The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
