The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
