The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
