The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
