The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 And by those angels who arrange to do the Commands of their Lord, (so verily, you disbelievers will be called to account). 5 Upon the day when the first blast shivers 6 Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): 7 (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety. 8 Their eyes humbled. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They will say: 'Then we are returned lost' 12 But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Hast thou received the story of Moses? 15 Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'" 19 So he showed him the mighty sign. 20 but he belied and disobeyed, 21 then he turned away hastily, 22 Then he gathered (men) and called out. 23 and proclaimed, "I am your supreme Lord," 24 Allah therefore seized him, in the punishment of this world and the Hereafter. 25 Surely in that is a lesson for him who fears! 26
