He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
