He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
