He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
