He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
