The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
