He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
