He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
