He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
