He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
