He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
