He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whoso wills, shall remember it 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain - how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one - he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
