He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
