He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
