He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
