He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
