He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
