He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
