He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
