He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
