He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
