He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
