He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 olives, dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
